Sweet, soft, and delicious, Lonka Caramels are a delightful confection of pure indulgence. Established in the Netherlands in 1920, Lonka has been producing specialty caramel from the very beginning, from simple squares in a single flavor to rich combinations of flavors and colors. Lonka NV was founded in Breda (the Netherlands) in 1920. Originally as Lonca, a contraction of London Caramel Works. In 1930 a second factory was established in Essen (Belgium). In 1965 the factory in Breda was closed and the entire production relocated to Essen. During this period, the company produced mainly caramel, toffee and hard sweets. In 1997 the company Lonka NV was taken over by the De Bock family. Since then Lonka has been a family business operating internationally and independently. A great deal has been invested in the market and in machines and in product innovation.
Old English Fudge was successfully introduced into the market and the caramel, inherited from the original owner, was further improved. In 2002 a new factory was opened in Roosendaal. In 2004, nougat and chocolate-coated sweets were added to the product range.
